Understand Everything About Sem: Seo Basics

A Reminder Of The Main Terms Used In SEO!

SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing, in the form of an established strategy (sponsored links, affiliate content, etc.). To manage all these strategies, you can train or delegate to an external service provider.

Organic website SEO and more generally digital marketing is full of somewhat barbaric terms that are not always easy to remember and understand. Let's see in this article the basics of SEO to fully understand the issues.

1. SEM, SEA, content marketing… some definitions

If you already know the terms, you can skip to the next question.
Unless you take this opportunity to do a quiz on the subject?
If not, I offer you with this first question, a reminder of the main terms used in SEO.

  • SEO: it's simply how search engines rank you in their list of results.
  • The SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization Understand in French "Optimizing research by the robots." Simply put: it's free SEO by search engines. We also speak of “organic” or “organic” website SEO, to contrast with paid techniques.
  • SEA stands for Search Engine Advertising. Understand in French “Advertising of searches by robots”. In simple terms: it is paid website SEO by search engines. It is this little yellow square of the time that lists the first links on Google. Now you just see “Announcement” next to each link.
  • SMO stands for Search Media Optimization. You understand the principle, don't you? 🙂 In French it is therefore “Optimization of searches via social networks”. This is for example adding share buttons to your site, or advertising a page of your site on a given social network.
  • SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing. Understand “Monetization of searches by robots”. In simple terms: this notion brings together paid and free techniques (the 3 above) in the form of an established strategy (sponsored links, affiliate content, etc.). To manage all these strategies, you can train or delegate to an external service provider.
  • “Content marketing” is “content strategy”. Content marketing consists of using SEO, SEA, SMO techniques to optimize your presence on the web. This can consist of creating visibility for your website on Google, increasing the number of visits to your site, developing or changing your popularity, attracting new customers, increasing your turnover.

2. What exactly is paid search?

Paid website SEO consists above all in quickly showing your site the first places on the search engines by pay per click (CPC).
However, you will have to pay more or less to have such a result on the search engines. And the day when you have more or less budget .. bye bye!
My advice?

Take the SEA test when you have a significant budget OR to highlight very specific advertising content for a specific event (a workshop, training).

To give you an idea of the principle for planning a paid campaign, you will need to count:

  • 20 to 50 € per budget day over a given period. Knowing that the price per clicks (yes you pay the number of clicks on your publication) varies depending on the market (if you have a competitive keyword in a place where there are a lot of people).
  • 10 to 15% of this budget in agency fees (campaign management). It also depends on whether you want to have a return on your investment.

Paid website SEO can be among others:

  • Google ads
  • Facebook advertising
  • Yellow Pages directories

My advice: do not base your SEM solely on this technique.

3. Limited budget: how to do in SEM?

It is not because you do not have this type of budget that SEO is not accessible to you.

We will just have to add these two words: smart + time.

Why be smart?

Because you will be smart about the creation of your website: you will think about the architecture of the site in a certain way. And then, a WordPress plugin like Yoast SEO or SEOPress for example will be your best friend.
With the basics explained, it guides you step by step in building the important elements for your page: keyword, title and meta description.

Why the notion of time?

Well, because you will have to be patient at the same time. Both to write your articles or site pages, and to wait for results. Sometimes the results which can take from 1 to 6 months to arrive on the first 30 links with an adapted strategy, or much more… It will depend on the implication and the market (competitive or not) on which you are.
